Mopping Up

AFter the fight the party takes a quick breather. Afterwards the party moves out from the chieften's throne room. From there they find a primative temple with a pair of kobold priests and their guards. Upon a circle of power is a bound and gagged kobold. Even as Crash charged in to engage the kobolds, one of the priests held forth his hand and shined white light out onto the bound kobold. This light transformed the kobold, made it bigger, stronger and more powerful, but utterly bereft of anything resembling its kobold heritage. The party wades in and eventually kills the kobold party. As the party searches the room, they find a bound and gagged halfling in one of the corners of the room. The party unties the halfling, who explains that his merchant caravan had been ambushed several weeks ago and that he had been taken underground and then traded several times between different groups before ending up with the kobolds.

Elrohir searches the priests and find that the source of the white light was the fox fire they had been searching for. Safiria announces that she will be taking the foxfire into safe keeping. No one else in the party has any objection to this.

The party decides that it would be best to find out it there is anything left in the kobold lair and proceeds to search it. They find several rooms where the rat master and his assistant vermin handler reside with several rats. The rat master decides to fight to the death while his assistant decides that discretion is the better part of valor and flees from the lair.

At this point the party is exhausted and decides that they are going to take a break for several hours. They decide to hole up in the previous chieften's quarters.

About two hours into their rest, Lucius hears several creatures creeping down the tunnels toward them. Quietly the party assembles to ambush anyone entering the room. As the party assembles they hear snatches of conversation and from it they garner that the band was hired by a drow who instructed the assassins to bring back back the wooden box and that they had found the party from the kobold that had fled the lair several hours earlier. The party immediately concludes that Soolian has double crossed them and that he will need to be dealt with and his assassins are dealt with.

The assassins charge in and the first few through the door take several heavy hits from Crash and Alex. The combat starts to get dicey when the dark creeper that had gotten into the room starts bouncing between foes and trying to stay hard to hit. Also a cavern choker grabs Al and starts using him as a body shield against Crash's attacks. After Al falls unconcious, the cavern choker has no body shield and eventually goes down. From the rear an enigma was standing in the back hurling lightening at the party. After the party got a few good hits on it, it went berserk, ripped off its skin and proceeded to wade into combat before being brought down. The party finishes mopping up the assassins and proceeds to get some rest.
