The party decides to hole up in one of the abandoned farm houses and plan their next move. The decide to trap the roving military patrol that they had previously seen. Several party members would lure the patrol back into the house. Once the patrol is in the house, the party would set the house on fire with the patrol trapped inside.
The party goes to execute the plan. The military patrol is whittled down by a running fight back toward the farmhouse. But the patrol is unwilling to fall into the party's trap. So the party cuts them down the old fashioned way.
The party then scouts around the perimeter of the town to the graveyard and quickly dispatches the grave digger and his funeral patrol, using two low mausoleums as an elevated platform to deliver a volley of lethal arrows down on the undead as they closed on the rest of the party. From their rooftop perch, they see that the bar at the center of town has a thick black smoke plume rising from the chimney, reminiscent of the smoke in the dwarven fortification, and decide to investigate.
Noting that every building has at least one skeleton archer in its 2nd story, Safiria clears a path between the edge of town and the bar using her Eldritch Blast, and then the party advances to the bar. They discover the bar has been gutted on the inside leaving a hollow shell of a building. Also in the center of the remains of the building is a stairwell leading down.
The party follows the tunnel down and comes out into a large lab space. In the lab is a work area with several slabs in the center. Along the left is a rack of tools, some the party recognize as surgical. On the right is an extensive collection of preserved body parts in jars. Toward the back of the lab an individual sits in a chair, flanked by two archers. The individual was dressed in the robes of the undertaker. He was also hooked up to a complicated collection of lab equipment to the side of the chair.
Once the party enters, the figure in the chair orders his minions to attack. The archers open fire while the three figures on the slabs stand up and attack the party. As the party cuts their way through the zombies, the figure in the chair begins to exude a black slimey cloud that he uses to command the zombies around him.
At this point a malevolent force takes control of Crash, who promptly turns on Alex and nearly cuts him in half. The party looks around carefully attempting to determine if the undertaker in the back is attempting to control their minds.
Winyar moves up and rebukes the zombies. When this happens, one of the jars sitting amidst the preserved body parts flares from the holy power revealing an undead Brain in a Jar.
To the party's horror they discover the zombies have the habit of standing back up after being struck down. Varien responds by lighting the zombies on fire and consequently lights part of the lab on fire as well.
With the zombies down and on fire, the party closes in on the undertaker, and the brain in a jar. Through the flames and destruction Winyar kills the undertaker as the party cuts down the archers and destroy the jar.
In the ensuing chaos as the remains of the lab catch fire, Safiria seizes a piece of the lab equipment and stows it in her bag of holding as they flee from the lab.
