"This above all: to thine own self be true" Hamlet (Act I, Sc. III)

Dalin 7, 53

The party retires to Lord Maedros house with two of the silver knights in attendance. The silver knights explain that until Elrohir forms a retinue of his own, they will accompany him in the meantime. The knights leave unstated that they are also there to protect Elrohir until he can protect himself. The knights also explain that the party will have to separate from Elrohir at this time since he will have to put the needs of the castle ahead of the party and eventually those two needs would eventually come into conflict with each other.

The party has a quiet celebration at Lord Maedros' house. During it, one of the knights relates some of the history of previous holder's of the Prince of Fall. While the many of the stories are full of high adventure and valiant deeds, the stories have an undercurrent of hard, difficult, work that often goes unrecognized by the people who need it most. The party comes to realize that the Prince of Fall is a person who is respected once his works are complete, but his appearance always forebodes hard times ahead.

Near the end of the meal, a servant tells the party that a pair of supplicants have arrived to see Elrohir. One is an emissary of the king, the other is Bob Toast. The emissary simply states that the king acknowledges the promotion of Elrohir to the post of Prince of Fall and that the king will provide assistance as can be rendered in his new role. The emissary departs without waiting for a response from Elrohir.

Bob Toast comes as a supplicant. He asks to be given leave to serve the new Prince of Fall. Elrohir is initially reticent since Bob had played games with him in the past. Lord Maedros suggests that Elrohir not dismiss Bob out of hand, very few volunteer to join the Prince of Fall and to turn any away would be a waste of resources. Elrohir thinks this over and decides to accept Bob Toast into his service. Bob Toast joins with this vow: So as the leaves fall upon the earth and are trodden upon, we shall protect the shoots that lie dormant beneath them.

With that Lord Maedros turns to Elrohir, "He understands what will be asked of him, he will be your most loyal and steadfast servant...No matter what you ask of him."

In the morning, the party quietly departs from the castle under an escort of silver knights. Elrohir and Bob Toast also depart to the inner reaches of the castle to consult with the king.

At the fey gate, the knights pass several gifts of thanks to the party. To Lucius a suit of leather armor, Winyar a holy symbol, Safiria an amulet, Crash a simple helm, Alex a suit of leather armor and Varien a simple cloth robe. The knights thank the party for their service that their well wishes go with the party.

The party steps through the fey gate and back into the mortal realm.
