Capture the Flag

Session Date: November 7, 2009
"Capture the flag is a traditional outdoor sport often played by children or sometimes adults where two teams each have a flag (or other marker) and the objective is to capture the other team's flag, located at the team's "base", and bring it safely back to their own base."

Dalin 22, 53
The party leaves Norn and travels to Arn.

Dalin 24, 53
As the party crosses the plains they watch a raiding party of Hastalon riders out rustling cattle. The party stays clear of the raiders.

Dalin 25, 53
As the party rides into Arn, they see another Hastalon raiding party. A small party from Arn rides out with the intent of intercepting the raiders. The strange thing about the party from Arn is that every rider is apparently on fire. The party from Arn attacks the Hastalon raiding party. The firewarriors quickly cut into the riaders and once the banner bearer goes down, the raiders disperse and are driven off.

After the fight, the party talks to one of the flaming warriors. The party gets some information about the town and the cattle rustlers.

The party sees the courtyard. In the courtyard is the Firestone. The party has a quick thought of stealing it right there and then until they see a posse ride up to the stone, supplicate to it and be converted into fire warriors.

Lucius stops off to talk to some elves to get the lay of the land. The elf notes that the citizens of the city have been using the stone to protect the city. The elf states that anyone who has approached the stone with good intentions can be transformed (for a short time) into one of the "fire warriors" to help protect the city. The elf notes in passing that people who have approached the stone with duplicitous intentions or hidden motives are often transformed into mutants and foulspawn. This transformation is apparently permanent.

The party talks to the cattleman's association. The party opens up with a tone that says that the party knows better than the cattlemen, and the party should really tell the cattlemen what to do with the firestone. Joon, from the cattleman's association does not take kindly to being told what to do in his town.
The party decides to change tacts and offers the cattlemen's association military and technical assisstance, all the town has to do is allow the party access to the firestone. Joon harshly rebuffs the offers of bringing in demonstration warforged that could be empowered with the firestone. Joon then tells the party that the town has more important things to worry about, like Hastalon, Norn, and the mutants that tried to use the stone and were warped by it. At the end of the discussion the party is basically told: "When you have your demo ready, bring it here. Until we can see it with our own eyes, you are no better than any snake oil salesmen we have run out of town."

The party decides to spend the night in the local pub. Since they are bored, they decide to hunt for the warped humans that didn't make the grade when supplicating to the stone. The party tracks evidence of hunting and gathering by the warped humans leading to the north east. After several miles the party finds a narrow hole in the ground and drops down into it.

In the cave the party quickly finds a pack of six creatures and quickly dispatch them.
