Session Date: October 18, 2008
"But I don't want to go among mad people," Alice remarked.
"Oh, you can't help that," said the Cat: "we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad."
"How do you know I'm mad?" said Alice.
"You must be," said the Cat, "or you wouldn't have come here."

Tourist Map of the City of Mormoon, year 53

The party arrives at the Mormoon town gate. After a short conversation with the gate guards, the party is directed to the Turning Wheel Inn as a place to get a room and a meal. After passing through the gate and entering town, the party decides to track down Sir Baylon so they can get paid. Upon arriving at his house they discover that Baylon had recently been called out to a council meeting at the Guild Hall. The party decides to go to the Guild Hall and track down Sir Baylon.

When the party arrives at the Guild Hall they find part of council having an improptu meeting, including: Ruben Wheelturner, Dale Cooper, Morgrim Thundershock and Sir Baylon. Thorin and several merchants who had been rescued are in attendance. As the party joins the meeting, the council members are giving Sir Baylon a thorough grilling. Dale Cooper is annoyed that the Baylon hired mercenaries for what he believes his rangers should be doing. Ruben is questioning why Baylon did not bring this problem to the attention of the council. Baylon gives askance to the party, hoping they will bail him out and doesn't find a lot of support from them. Thorin says that he wants the hammer and is nonplussed when he is put off by just about everyone else at the meeting. Morgrim states that the discussion about the hammer can be handled later and he is sure an amicable arrangement can be made. This seems to molify Thorin. Back to the task at hand, Ruben prompts Safiria and Elrohir to give an accounting of their actions while hunting for bandits. During this time Baylon keeps trying to interrupt or get a word in edgewise. Ruben finally tosses Baylon out of the meeting when it becomes evident that Baylon has nothing else to contribute to the meeting. Ruben then dismisses the merchants. Ruben pays off the party for their previous work and then offers the party a job (to Dale's obvious annoyance) to continue hunting for the organizer of the banditry and to find the missing merchants and their cargo. The meeting then breaks up as Ruben excuses himself to speak to several other people who had been waiting to talk to him.

Morgrim invites the party to accompany him down to the dwarf tunnels for some light refreshment and continue their discussions. Agreeing, party retires to the Tunnels. Once there, the party has had a chance to settle down, get a drink. Then they resume the discussion pertaining the to disposition of the recovered hammer. Morgrim offers to trade the family heirloom for the an opportunity to pick some weapons and armor out of the dwarven smithy. There is some concern from Crash, who wants to make sure the hammer is a family heirloom and the proper dwarf is receiving it. Morgrim conducts a test and confirms the hammer is an heirloom of the House of Deepbreath. With this settled, the party eagerly takes Morgrim up on his offer.

Party asks for some detail on the surrounding lands. Discussion on the Shadowhold. The fortress was previously a dwarf mine/fortress. The fortress was laid seige to by the tieflings during the tiefling/dragon wars. the siege ended when the teiflings poured a black smoke into the fortress. The smoke is almost a living entity, hungry for the living, awakening the dead and hiding in the lowest levels of the fortress. The smoke whispers to people out at its furthest fringes. Safiria comments that the smoke knew her name.

Moagrim also touches briefly upon Dracnor's Holdfast. The holdfast was a dragon hold that was destroyed through tiefling assualt because of its proxmity to the road. The Road being an artifical causeway that the tieflings carved out to give easy ground access to the southern realms for their ground armies.

Regional map with old dwarf bases provided.

Meeting breaks up and the party separates to run personal errands.

Varien stops to pick up some property from Baylon's house. Baylon is seen seething and drinking himself into a stupor.

Alex stops off at church, having been greatly disturbed by the undead they had previously encountered.

The party stays overnight at the Turning Wheel. During the evening Safiria turns down, scares off or disciplines any number of potential suitors.

Party sets up a base camp from which to conduct their searches.

Safiria looks for slavers in the honeycomb. Hunts around with her previous contacts. She also gets some information on the black smoke. It likes to pool in low places like bad air. It can sometimes be blown away like smoke.

Party finds a another dwarf base while looking for signs of the slavers. It is apparently abandoned but the drop door that prevents access to the lower levels has not been sealed. The party decided not to investigate the tunnel at that time.

Everyone makes it back to camp and debriefs each other. Party decides to stay overnight at camp while Crash runs back to town to get an inventory of items from the caravan that are missing and unique. Safiria goes back to the Honeycomb with this additional information.
