An underground warren within the Division Mountains, very close to the surface and The Road. It consists of several caves that have been made habitable. At a depth of less than 1000 below ground, the Honeycomb serves as a customs point between the surface and the subsurface realm. As such it has a large transient population and an odd mix of races. It is only lightly patrolled with a couple independent checkpoints that keep out the less desireable riff-raff and subteranean predators.
Main points of the Honeycomb:
Main Transfer
Loading pens with horses and Rothe. Surface wagons and carts. No renting.
The Reaches
The down below, living under the freeway area of the honeycomb. beggers, undesireables, refuse of the area drift to this area. sort of a squatters area. Very little improvements or ammenities.
There are tunnels out to the shadowhold and to dracnos holdfast.
Waypoint
Contains a couple of permanent structures. The Tavern: The Dripping Stalactite run by Stan and a Temple Transfer Station. Many ammentities, like fresh water and air, trade goods from the surface and below.
The Cave of Uthas
A lower level cave where some of the races that are less comfortable with the surface dwellers congregate. Surface dwellers are openly shunned in this cave and civility toward surface dwellers is considerably lower in this cave than in Waypoint. Surface dwellers are suggested to get their business in this cave done and clear out.
Fungal Cavern
Not strictly part of the honeycomb proper. Waste from above is sluiced here and used for fungal growth and food production. it is nominally under the control of Stan from the Dripping Stalactite.
Transfer and checkpoints
There are a variety of wide cave points and armed checkpoints anywhere from a half mile to five miles away from the honey comb. These are indepentently administered and operated. While under no mandate, each of these checkpoints is there to prevent unwanted creatures from the lower depths from coming up. Normally the tunnels between the honeycomb and these checkpoints are unpatrolled but relatively safe (the last marker of civilization as it were). Tunnels beyond the checkpoints are to be considered AT YOUR OWN RISK.
Rules, Laws and Customs:
Don't pick fights. This area is lightly patrolled.
Don't offend people. This area is lightly patrolled.
Use of overly bright lights or intentionally blinding people with bright lights can be considered an assault.
Slaving is strictly forbidden within the caves of the Honeycomb.
