The in no written of oral record of how long the dwarves have lived in the mountains, but they are considered an old race much like the elves (as opposed to the humans, Dargai and goblins, whom the elves and dwarves consider to be relatively new addtionas to the world).
Situated between the The Kingdom of Hebridonia and the Demarian Empire, the Ardgour mountains form a natural barrier and chokepoint between the Humans and the Dargai. The Ardgour mountains stretch south to teh Alban sea and northward to the Ring of Fire.
There is a fair sized pass through the Ardgour mountains called the Pass of Cromdale. This pass has been the gateway from where the Demarian Empire has marched their armies from the Empire into the Kingdom of Hebridonia. The dwarves have fiercely defended the pass in the past. Currently it is controlled by the Demarians as they pursue their war against the dwarves.
Most recently, the dwarven settlements of Black Morok and Gortyna was reported destroyed by the demarians in 1022.
In the year 807 the outlying dwarven citadel of Farsonwell was destroyed by the Demarians. In retaliation, the dwarves destroyed the city of Sunai.
